Phuket supermarkets are a great place to food shop if you want to save on your dining expenses. After all, your food bill is a big part of your vacation spending. There are three major Phuket grocery stores to choose from; Big C Supercenter Phuket, Tesco Lotus Supercenter and Tops Supermarket. Each one of these supermarkets has a wide variety of local and international food products to choose from.

One special tip… shop for all your basic food staples such as frozen food, meats, dairy products, canned goods, breads and pastries at the supermarket and buy all your fruits and vegetables at the local open markets... This will equal a “HUGE” savings.

Here are our best methods to really reduce to your Phuket food bill...

Big C Supercenter Phuket

This is our favorite of all the Phuket supermarkets. The Big C has the largest variety of both local and western food. We buy almost all of our frozen and canned foods at this supermarket. You can also find an assortment of other non-food items; electronics, clothing, vision, drug store, etc.

We bought our refrigerator here at a very good price, and had it delivered on the same day! Excellent customer service!

• Value: You’ll save big here
• Convenience: Very easy to get to and find parking
• Best Time to go: During the week and just when they open at 9:00 am. The weekends are the peek days, with huge crowds.

Tesco Lotus Supercenter

Tesco Lotus is another excellent location to stock up on your food supply. You can find a large variety of both local and western foods to choose from. You can also find an assortment of other non-food items; electronics, clothing, vision supplies and drug store.

This is one of the Phuket supermarkets that have one of the best food courts.

• Value: Good savings
• Convenience: Easy parking and access
• Best Time to go: During the week days early before 1200 noon.

Tops Supermarket

Tops supermarket is another fine chain of the Phuket supermarkets. You can find a good selection of both local and western food supplies. Our family has been to two Tops locations; Phuket town (1st floor Robinsons) and Central Festival Phuket (1st floor).

Special tip...Tops (Central Festival Phuket) has some of the best fruit selections.

• Value: Good savings
• Convenience: Parking can be difficult at the Robinsons location Phuket Town
• Best Time to go: During the week days early before 1200 noon both locations.

SuperCheap

A cross between a Metro Market, Walmart, a Bazaar, and a normal local market for nearly everything from groceries, to motorbike and car supplies and electronics. The best time to visit is in the evening.

• Value: Good savings for bulk items.
• Convenience: Easy parking during early morning hours
• Best Time to go: Evening hours.

They have good prices for fresh fruit and vegetables and also a very good frozen food section where you can find some those hard to find items you can’t find in the other supermarkets.
