L'EDEN'S NAIHARN PHUKET

QUALITY DINING PHUKET THAILAND

Phuket Post. There are not many restaurants that can claim to have everything needed for a relaxing evening out with friends. L’Eden’s Rock certainly goes a long way to fit that bill.

It is a new restaurant on Viset Road in Rawai and has all the makings of a star attraction. Continue past the OrBorTor, along the Rawai beach road for one kilometre and L’Eden’s Rock sits perched on a hill on the left.

Purpose-built, it has an atmosphere that fits all. It is definitely romantic, but could equally serve as the place to hold a company outing.

Open every day, except Mondays, the restaurant has quality service and excellent food all managed under the very watchful eye of Michael Richter.

He and his father, Paul has taken over the premises and have added French flair and attention to detail. Michael spent many years learning his trade in the famous Hotel Negresco in Nice and now wants to bring the same attributes to Phuket but at more reasonable prices.

The restaurant is large but cosy and the subtle lighting creates a warm intimate feel while carefully camouflaging the spread of the restaurant. The atmosphere is relaxed and in no way pompous and the service is as excellent as you would expect.

The menu is a fusion of European and Thai and has something for everybody; from seafood to sandwiches.

I started with a Salad Compose (150 baht) a fresh and crisp bed of greens topped with tasty cubes of ham and cheese with tomatoes and dressing. A fitting appetiser, generous in quantity and almost a meal in itself.

To accompany the salad I had a glass of the house white (100 baht), a South African Mont Claire that will literally go with anything. All the drinks were reasonably priced and they have a good selection of wine to choose from.

For the main course I was tempted by the pasta dishes but eventually ordered the Cuisse de Canard Confit (300 Baht). This was delicious. Duck leg served with sautéed potatoes in garlic and herb dressing. The meat was succulent, distantly sweet and just fell off the bone. The herbs used in the confit process were evident but very subtle. The overall effect was very pleasing indeed.

The potatoes were perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The accompaniment was a small crisp salad, but you can choose other vegetables if you prefer.

There is live music every night. A very accomplished classical guitarist sits in the corner and serenades diners with everything from traditional classical to Bob Marley. He also does requests.

To finish off the meal I decided on a simple vanilla ice cream (25 baht). That too was excellent and topped with cream. After the meal you can relax in the comfortable lounge area with a cocktail or a drink or perhaps have a game of pool with friends.

On Friday night, L’Eden’s Rock has a European and Thai buffet for 259 baht per person. That is one very good reason to get down to Rawai and sample their fare.
