Jan 8 - 15 Boathouse Art Gallery presents Kathy Manthei

Phuket based artist Kathy Manthei's unique repertoire of acrylic mixed media paintings includes the use of Chinese ink, metals - especially copper and gold leaf - and paper. Recently, she began working with encaustic (an ancient painting technique using molten beeswax) and acrylic transfers. Applying solutions to reactive metallic paints produces the rich, lustrous patina blue and green as seen on the bamboo pieces on show. Lately Kathy has also been using original images from her childhood, adding an appealing whimsy and childlike innocence to her art.

The exhibition opens on Thursday, 8 January and ends 8 February. Open daily.
