Founded in 1818 by Nicolas Billecart and his spouse Elizabeth Salmon in Mereuil-sur-Ay, the vineyard has remained in the family. Seven generations on, the house is led by the very talented Francois Roland-Billecart. The Cuvee Nicolas-Francois Billecart 1959 won first place in the Champagne of the Millennium 1999.
