Best Little Sports Bar....Duke's @ Kata
(San Francisco)
Duke's...a little bar with big atmosphere
Bar none, Duke's has the right formula and is a great place to hang out especially if you are a sports fan. They provide both cable and satellite coverage on five big screen televisions nicely positioned around the bar.
Owners, Mark and Karen Ellison, are using good ole American know-how to run a small bar with big ambiance. Although only a bar, you'll find an number of patrons dining because the staff makes it easy to order food from a number of surrounding restaurants.
The beer is always cold and their cocktails are fun and tasty....as they feature a 'drink of the day' and make some of the best fruit shakes around. I recommend their Mai Tai!
If you're looking for a 'girly bar' this is not the place. You go to Duke's to watch sports and to talk with other patrons....expats, as well as, vacationers from all over the world.
You can find Duke's on TAINA Road between Rico's Pizzeria & Steakhouse (closed during the low season) and the Little Star Restaurant. Taina Road is just after the Starbucks once you enter Kata from Karon. Turn left onto Taina and you'll see the Duke's sign on your right about a block or so up the road.
Parking is made easy with a big lot outback...just turn on the gravel road in front of the bar.
Be sure to say hello to their staff, Kai, Duan, and Ning. Oh, and you'll find Mark there most days from opening until after Happy Hour starts!
